We know how important it is to ensure that children and teens receive a strong dental foundation that will last them the rest of their lives. Good oral health is not something to take for granted, and getting off to a great start is the best way to prevent serious dental problems from occurring in the future.
When your child or teen comes to Downriver Smiles, you can be sure that they are in good hands. Whether they are making their first visit, need a tooth restoration or are just coming in for a routine checkup, our caring and experienced team will provide them with the best treatment available. We would like to thank you for choosing Downriver Smiles, and we promise to help your child obtain a smile that stands out for all the right reasons.
We recommend that patients bring their children in for their first dental visit by the time they turn one year old. By visiting our practice at this young age, children become more familiar with receiving dental care and the treatments involved. We believe that establishing a level of trust and comfort early in life is important for ensuring good dental health for many years to come.
During the initial visit, parents can use this time to ask questions about their child’s oral care habits and address any concerns that they might have. Our dental health experts also use this chance to provide parents with information on issues such as teething, cavity prevention, proper brushing and flossing, thumb sucking and more.
Just like adults, children and teens should come visit us for a complete dental checkup at least once every six months. During these visits, we provide every child and teen with a professional teeth cleaning, digital X-rays when necessary, an oral cancer screening and cavity detection using DIAGNOdent. We also use this opportunity to present parents with information on how to provide the best possible treatment for their child’s developing teeth.
While preventive treatment is important for children, we realize that there are times when they will experience unexpected dental issues. For these times, we offer restorative treatments for our youngest patients.
Fillings are very common in kids. In the case of a cavity, a filling will strengthen the damaged tooth and prevent the decay from spreading. Crowns are also relatively common for children in cases when cavities have destroyed too much of the tooth to use a filling. We also offer space maintainers if your child loses a tooth too early and we need to hold the space for a permanent tooth. Regardless of the treatment needed, we will treat your child gently and work to ensure their smile stays healthy for a lifetime.
